Father's Day 2010 - A Day to Run with the Turkeys

We braved the heat and humidity (and terrarium-like conditions) to head out to Turkey Run State Park in Indiana to meet up with some wonderful friends (who are not turkeys despite what the title of this post implies).

There were some amazing creatures to be studied along the way, rocks to climb and even a hollowed out tree stump to call home for a bit.

The Creatures (and a mushroom grouping too!)

A Tree Stump to Call Home

Luckily, along the route, we came upon a little sandy beach to skip rocks from and squish our toes in the sand and water. It was the only sandy beach to be had -- the water was just too high elsewhere. Thank goodness we stopped to play. It was the perfect ending (or almost ending) to a great hike; the real ending happened a while later after we were sweaty and tired and a little bit crabby.
