The Adventure of the Runaway Deer, a Pig's Nose Found and a Muddy Pair of Shoes

Our weekly walk into the woods was absolutely beautiful this morning. We met up with some of the usual suspects (and let me just say -- I LOVE that movie) to enjoy a morning exploring. Today, we explored with 8 kids and 4 adults. Mostly, we were wild things thundering along, and for a few rare moments we were as quiet as field mice while we watched a deer family leap away that we had startled.

If you look closely (in the center of the picture below), you can see the youngest deer still watching us wild things!

Norah found half of a walnut shell, which she quickly pronounced to be a pig's nose!

At one point, we came around a bend in the trail and found a mostly muddy stream of water with logs and boards across it. Kai was in heaven! He ran ahead of us all to cross the bridges. Eventually, the excitement got the better of his balance, and he slipped. His pants were wet and his shoes were full of mud and water. He quickly took off his shoes (for the second time during this walk) and finished the walk barefoot. His Daddy (a lover of walking barefoot) would have been proud!
