On a beautiful Sunday in March, I posted on Facebook that we were getting ready to make gingerbread pirates; Kai is enthralled with Kristin Kaldstrup's The Gingerbread Pirates. The dough did get made on that glorious, sun shiny, March afternoon, but it sat in the fridge for a few days until we cut them out.
I used a large gingerbread boy cookie cutter to make the bodies and then added hats and peg legs to them. They turned out pretty cool. Kai kept saying over and over again, "this is so awesome!"
A few days later, we made the icing and got ready to decorate them to look just like the main characters in the book. It was so much fun to watch Kit and Kai bring Captain Cookie, Wavy and Dots to life! They did a great job. After the main characters were done, Kai had some fun decorating the remaining two gingerbread pirates.
Kai aglow with excitement!

The next day (when the icing was FINALLY dry) Kai got into the tupperware that the cookies were in and grabbed two cookies for he and Norah to munch. Luckily, I was able to snap a couple of photos before they walked the plank right into their happy tummies!
