The Cicada Circle of Life -- aka Kai's 1st Science Fair Project

Kai's grade school is hosting a science fair at the end of this week. Over the weekend, Kai began working on his entry. Kit and I stayed out of his way and let him just create. Certainly, there are some scientific inaccuracies in his project on the cicada life cycle such as bees and birds bringing cicadas into a nest to kill and eat; he does, however, have a cicada killer tunnel and a cicada killer attacking a cicada as a part of the life cycle. Thank goodness we picked up and saved all those dead cicadas and cicada killers at the end of the summer and early fall during our walks!

We are so proud of him, he made up his own title, decided to number the different items on his collection and is now in the process of writing out a key for his project. We are so pleased with his happiness and enthusiasm. He did it all himself and enjoys talking about it. I think this is a great start to his life doing projects for school; we want him to be confident enough to do them without NEEDING us to do every part with him.

I just love watching him draw. He concentrates so hard and loves every minute of the creative process. Basically, the boy just wows me in more ways than one!!!
