Halloween 2010

Superman and Ming-Ming -- Let the candy collection BEGIN!

You would think that a family so caught up in its love of squash and thereby Halloween would out Halloween, Halloween every year. Ummm...not so much. Nothing could be further from the truth. We fail at pumpkin carving - we have great ideas, which we don't usually execute until mid-November. We can't have the fabulous yard display, because the squirrels eat a few tiny bites out of every squash we put out on our front porch. Yuck!

Well...this year...we actually got our pumpkins carved a couple of weeks ahead of time. Kit was set to be in Uzbekistan at a library conference for the two weeks prior to Halloween, and he wanted to carve up ours before he left. The kiddos had a great time drawing up their designs for Daddy to carve. And, believe it or not, they both reached in like troopers to scoop out the ooey, gooey guts!

On the Friday before Halloween, we ventured down to Kit's hometown for trick-or-treating with the cousins. These pictures of the motley crew really don't do how cute they were justice (I picked the wrong location to shoot them). We had two princesses, a leopard, Superman, a ninja, Darth Vadar, a witch and Ming-Ming! It was fabulous. The kids had a great time walking around the downtown area to local businesses to get candy as well as to a few special friends' houses to show off their costumes.

And on Halloween while Kit was traveling half-way around the world to get back to us, the kids donned their costumes once again to trick-or-treat with their neighborhood friends. Norah would not, however, put her entire costume on - just the aviator hat. Instead of Ming-Ming, most people thought she was Amelia Earhart. Either way, she was adorable!

I love the pure joy on Kai's face as he descends the front steps with his friends! Priceless...
